Web design case study / Urban Farm Planters

Urban Farm Planters

The Brief

Urban Farm Planters is an innovative new concept in growing vegetables and other plants where there is limited space or water availability.  In  2009 the Rochdale branch of Rotary International developed a range of inexpensive growing containers, starting with their flagship product, the Vertical Growbag.

The products are targeted at urban dwellings where there is limited space and dry, arid countries where water is at a premium.

David Acton who is spearheading the project, approached RO Web Solutions to develop a website to promote and sell the products online.

Our Solution

An eCommerce site was required but the budget was limited, so we proposed a solution based on a custom design integrated into Shopify. Shopify is a hosted application that lets you sell your products online, and has great integration features.

This allowed us to build a fully functional, custom-designed eCommerce store with shopping cart, product management, blog and additional pages at a fraction of the cost of a full bespoke eCommerce solution.

Shopify has a range of payment options, although to keep initial costs down, the site is just using Paypal to begin with, and the shipping options are customisable to quite an extent too.

Once the design was completed and signed off, it only took a few days to integrate the design into Shopify and get the store up and running.

What we did

  • XHTML/CSS
  • Graphic Design
  • Project Management
  • eCommerce

Testimonial

"A note of thanks to the design team for constructing a site that we are more than happy with.
Quality, speed, efficiency and more importantly an instant understanding of our requirements.

Many thanks."
